Killed by Death # 17

Well it's about three months ago since I've posted something so time for some new shit!! Some of the 'Killed by Death' records probably belong to the best compilation records ever made for those interested in punkrock (and I'm not talking about Greenday Offspring or other bullshit). I once read some norwegian guy named Kugelberg is behind the first compilations that were made under the name "KBD". Later other people joined in and in total a whole bunch of records came out all called Killed by Death. I own six of them and they're all great. The first KBD records that were released have also appeared on CD, but I don't think the one I've uploaded for you has ever been released in digital form. There's even a note on the record, saying there were just 700 made, I don't know if that is true. Anyway the music is great. There's songs about cannibalism, suicide, some guy singing "I wanna fuck annette"; we have the Mentally Ill singing "it's a living hell, in my padden cell, don't leave me here to die" and Count Vertigo with perhaps the best song on the record titled "I'm a mutant". This is Killed by Death 17 - "All American punk - no foreign junk". Link in the comment.

Live Skull: Pusherman

A new posting...finally, uhm happy newyear everyone. Another one from the mighty Live Skull, their 1986 Pusherman EP. The front cover shows a painting of LA artist Scott Miller: an animal boiling in water. Back: a young girl with a large gun. No idea why she's there. Not much fun in the lyrics either: The glamor's off, I don't know what else/you could do a lot worse, you could turn on the gas and have a psychic attack, it feels exactly like this. Etcetera. The 12 inch just features 3 songs: Swingtime, Raise the Manifestation, and Pusherman, a Curtis Mayfield cover. For the general feeling of the music, and the line-up of the band, check the text at "Bringing home the bait". Oh and sorry for the scratch on 'Pusherman'... link in the comment.

Live Skull: Bringing Home the Bait

This must be one of the most inactive blogs in the world! But I just managed to make one entry before the year ends. As usual, something from vinyl...
It's one of my favorite LP's of all time, "Bringing home the bait" by NY band Live Skull. The band is long gone. It was released by Homestead records in 1985, and never made it to CD. Live Skull was one of the bands in the US 'noise' scene of the 1980's, together with more well-known acts like Sonic Youth, Swans and Butthole Surfers. Not exactly party music, and this is certainly true for this Live Skull record. The sound is desolate, cold and intense, and the song lyrics - at least from what I can understand of them - don't exactly give evidence of much joy in life. This said, the music on this album has a majestic beauty, and it certainly got stuck in my mind for a long time. I have no idea what happened with the members of Live Skull in this setting - on this album Mark C. (guitars, vocals), Marnie Greenholz (bass, vocals), James Lo (drums) and Tom Paine (guitar, vocals). Later in the bands existence, Greenholz left and Thalia Zedek took her place. Later, she became the singer of another great US band, Come. Live Skull made a couple of other records, which I will post, well, sometime. Enjoy, but don't listen during the Christmas days! From rapidshare.de to .com

Hi there,
I always used rapidshare.de to upload big files, but since rapidshare.de is getting smaller (or closing down, or whatever), I will be using rapidshare.com from now on. The old files (rapidshare.de) will still work for some time, I think. Anyway, if something is wrong with the files, leave a comment. Cheers,

Rubber Legs

It's time for the amazing fourth posting!! I'm a bit lazy with this blog, but now I have a nice treat for you, the fantastic LP by The Stooges "Rubber Legs". There's also a cd version of this I think, but I ripped this from the LP, which has 6 tracks (tracks and download link in comments). In my opinion this is the best that the Stooges ever made, the music is pure rock n roll.. dirty, horny and loud!! They got this out somewhere after finishing "Raw Power". It was recorded in studio at around 1973/1974. Iggy Pop vocals, Ron Asheton bass, Scott Asheton drums, James Williamson guitar and Scott Thurston piano (and damn good too!!). I read the Stooges reformed this summer, to play some festival in Holland. I hope they enjoyed it, I don't wanna hear it.

Gus Chamber

Here we go, another post! Already the third one! I was very glad to get my first comment ever, so on we go. This one is especially for fans of loud fucked up punk rock. Sorry about the nun with the crucifix, I can't help it she's on the backside of the EP "Gus Chamber and the ruptured wank sparks". Again, I ripped it from the vinyl. I'm sure there is no cd-version anywhere to get, I'm even pretty sure it will be hard to get this at all.
I don't know much about the band. I bought this thingie at a punk gig in a local squat a few years ago, and found it in my coat a day later. Gus Chamber and his bandmates Zombo Wankspark, Stumbles Wankspark and an unknown drummer recorded this on the anniversary of GG Allin's death, in 1996. Released on 'No fucking labels', it features six covers of the late GG Allin, who as you may know died in 1993. I could never identify with GG very much - who does? The guy was an aggressive bastard, he hated women, gays, blacks, in fact he hated everyone. But he made a bunch of pretty good punk songs. Gus Chamber and his band picked out a few of these, and the result is just fine.
Like I said, I don't know much about Gus Chamber and his band Rupture. They came from Perth, Australia. Gus died in december 2001. That's the way it goes. Tracklist and download link in the comments.

Swanic Youth

I might as well post something. Here's a funny 7 " from 1987, made by a band called Swanic Youth, I ripped it from the vinyl. The first song is called Swan Jovi, vocals by someone called Zeppo Ramone, it's a hilarious interpretation of music by the early Swans. Second song is called Sonic Yoot, sounds a bit Mexican with someone singing "sonic yoot is all there is". Zeppo does a nice imitation of Thurston Moores guitar here. 'Swan Jovi' was engineered by Kramer at Noise New York, I guess he's behind this joke, but if anyone knows more I'd like to hear. Link in the comment.

**update (21/8)** Well I guess i was just too lazy to look it up. A journalist called Mykel Board appears to be behind this single, he's an old hippie and has a website called... mykelboard.com. Very important update number two: the other side of the sleeve!!
